Thrift Store Buys

I visited quite a few of the area thrift stores this week in search of some hidden treasures. I found quite a few as you can see by the photo.

I will be painting all of my treasures with black paint. This will be my first attempt at prim painting on wooden furniture and accessories. Can anyone recommend the type of paint I should use, such as flat, satin, or gloss? I bought a black semi-gloss but I'm not sure that is the effect I want on items like the cutting board. My purchases include the chair, picture frames, spoon rack, cutting board, magazine rack, wooden trays, and a shelf.

The theme of my kitchen and great room are saltbox houses, so I want to try to paint some saltboxes and sheep on the wooden trays. I will keep you posted on my progress.

I usually use flat black paint if you're going to distress it. Then after distressing and/or decorative painting and spattering on the item, I use a walnut gel stain which gives it a nice old effect and puts a satin finish on it. I like the Benjamin Moore products.

Wow! You hit the mother load with this shopping trip.
I can't wait to see how they look all primmed up!
I use whatever kind of paint I have available. If you use semi-gloss and sand it that would be just fine!
I finish all of my projects in Briwax in dark brown.

Wonderful finds at the thrift store. I use a flat paint and then sand it til I reach the desired prim effect, then any non glossy stain or a clear satin. Good luck, can't wait to see the finished products. Thanks for checking out my blog and come back for a visit any ole time.
